About Ian

Ian McPherson is a writer and graphic artist with over 30 years’ experience in advertising, design, graphic art, computer operation and website design. He has had his own company since 1972, but has contracted to advertising agencies and studios on occasion.

His advertising credentials include multiple TV, radio and print advertisements. Whilst working with advertising agency Livingstone Vale Wells Ian was responsible for naming the new Sanitarium Soy Milk, SO GOOD. Ian also produced the packaging artwork, and wrote and helped produce the launch TV commercial. The product was the Supermarket Product of the Year.

He is particularly accomplished at logotype design and computer-generated artwork preparation, and has been at the forefront of the industry since the introduction of the Apple Macintosh to the graphic arts industry. He is one of the most accomplished Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop users in Australia.

Ian was also one of the first people in Australia to produce colour separations from the Macintosh and a Linotronic imagesetter, and has a wealth of prepress and colour experience. He wrote for Desktop magazine for many years, reviewing the latest applications for Macintosh and writing tutorials.

Ian has won many awards for his work, including a Gold Clio at Cannes in the 1980s (for a 30 second Chatelle Napoleon brandy TV spot), and an Award Australia radio accolade for his work on IPEC. Ian has also won numerous website awards; his first website for his art studio won over 100 international awards (as measured by Award Sites), including multiple Level 5 awards, some of the toughest in the world.

Ian is also a committed “peak oiler”, believing that our future will be dictated by our reliance on a finite resource that is depleting at a frightening rate. He has spent the past 8 years spreading the word and continues to do so, through his activism and this blog.
